Kissing Tarmac
August 19, 2007 by Ruthie
Ruthie is back at the desk following an unfornate incident involving her, her motorbike and a stretch of wet tarmac, which has left Ruthie looking like she has taken second prize in an argument with an unhappy client. Ruthie is pleased to report that she has no significant injuries other than a fat lip, but her pride and joy, “blue streak” has sustained significant damage.
This is, of course one of the hazards of biking, but if Ruthie has learned anything from today’s incident it is this:
1. Always think twice before riding in the wet.
2. It takes longer to stop in the wet therefore allow more space between yourself and the vehicle in front.
3. Leather is both fun and practical clothing.
Anyone who says that biking is inherently dangerous is liable to get a fat lip not sustained from a collision with tarmac. True, biking can be dangerous, but then life is inherently dangerous, the only certanties being death and taxes. And since we are all guaranteed to die anyway, it’s as well to live a little on the way.
UPDATE: 29th August.
Ruthie’s beloved motorbike is now officially a write off. Suggestions for her next purchase, or indeed offers of motorbikes, would be most welcome.
It’s very decent of you to put about a yarn like this: but it’s time to tell the truth. Any ex-coblogger who sets up a rival blog will also have a similar ‘accident‘; I’ll brook no rivals.
yeah, but as an assassin you’re rubbish cos I’m still here.
Sorry to hear of your bike accident. Good to hear you are OK - and hope the bike gets fixed!
An deficiency to be corrected shortly

For once, I agree with you. And I’m annoyed with myself as I’m normally a very good driver. I fear I have been lulled into a sense of complacency with the ABS on my car. The bike has all the sophistication of a 1973 Lada.
